This is the final historical chapter in this work outliningprincipal post-Paleogene events. Section 21.1 summarizes thetime scale for these events. The evidence for this is mostlyin the interpretation of geomorphic features of uplift and denudationwith little preservation of onshore sediments until after themain glaciation had ceased its erosive activity. The consequentialdepositional record is thus mainly submarine until Holocenetime, when it could relate to onshore history. Figure 21.1 showsthe distribution of Neogene and Quaternary volcanics, hydrothermalzones and areas of recent seismic activity.
Many geoscientists are preoccupied with the closing stages ofthis story and another volume this size.
